Kitchen Innovation – How it Works…
The flexibility of our modular SimpleCook™ system allows home and community-based service providers the ability to customize meal programs to best fit their needs. The following service options can be “mixed and matched” to create the optimal combination for each situation. SimpleCook™ works with our SunMeadow® brand meals that are designed specifically for seniors’ nutritional needs and taste preferences.
Step 1: Meals Produced by Chef and his Staff

Meals are prepared in our modern, continuously USDA-inspected production kitchen.
- Meals are made with fresh, local (when possible) ingredients picked at the peak of ripeness and highest nutritional content.
- Meals are prepared under constant USDA and food scientist supervision using HACCP and GMP processes.
- Food samples and equipment are tested and analyzed during production to ensure the absence of pathogens.
- Facility and process are inspected by USDA, FDA, state and local authorities, and by AAA agencies during monitoring audits.
Step 2: Freezing Ensures Safety and Great Taste

Pre-plated (and portion-controlled) meals are flash-frozen in a spiral freezer.
- Meals are maintained in cold storage at -10°F until delivery.
- Safe handling is ensured and cold-chain remains unbroken throughout the process.
- Freezing preserves nutritional content at peak levels.
Step 3: Delivery

Meals are delivered weekly by specially designed freezer trucks.
- Delivery routes are optimized for efficiency and tracked by GPS.
- Deliveries are made on the same day at approximately the same time so seniors can plan doctors visits and other activities.
- Drivers phone seniors, if needed, to allow them extra time to reach the door and so they know who is at the door.
- Centralized, multi-lingual call center schedules any needed redeliveries and manages any other necessary changes or paperwork.
Step 4: Home Check

Uniformed and trained drivers deliver meals to seniors.
- Drivers are thoroughly screened, including Level 2 background checks.
- Driver unpacks meals and stores in senior’s freezer until ready to eat.
- Drivers are trained to recognize issues in the senior’s home.
- Case Managers will be notified immediately of unusual or unsafe conditions.
- Specialized tablet technology allows real-time data capture, surveys, and reporting.
Step 5: Meals Enjoyed by Recipient

A meal is taken directly from the freezer to oven or microwave and immediately consumed by the senior.
- Senior has a choice of meals at mealtime.
- Senior can eat what they want when it is most convenient.
- Meals are ensured to be safely handled through the entire process.
- More cost-effective
- Allows home-delivered meal recipients to eat what they want, when they want it
- Meals stay in the safe food temperature zone
- Available shelf stable menu further increases options and flexibility
- Allows volunteers to spend more time on other support functions, including longer visits with seniors
